What is Berlin.rb?

Berlin.rb is a new, regular meetup for people who work with or are interested in Ruby, based in Berlin. We host talks, project show-and-tells, and casual get-togethers for the local Ruby community.

Why another Berlin Ruby meetup?

Berlin already has a great, long-running official Ruby User Group, and we’re big fans of what they do. But Berlin’s Ruby community is large, and we believe the city can support more regular Ruby events again. With Berlin.rb, we want to create more opportunities for people working with (or simply curious about) Ruby to meet up, give talks, share what they’re building, and spend time together.

What is the code of conduct?

Berlin.rb adopts the Ruby Community Conduct Guideline. It applies equally to attendees and organizers in our official channels and shared event spaces.

Be tolerant of opposing views, avoid personal attacks and disparaging remarks, assume good intentions, and do not harass others. Anyone asked to stop unacceptable or disruptive behaviour is expected to comply. Organizers may ask anyone who does not comply to leave an event or official channel.

If you experience or witness concerning conduct at a Berlin.rb event, tell an organizer in person or email hello@berlinrb.org. Reports of harassment or specific incidents will be heard and addressed; they are not considered political debate.

Does Berlin.rb discuss politics?

Berlin.rb is a Ruby meetup, not a political forum. We take no political or ideological positions, and political discussions are not permitted in our official channels or shared event spaces. This includes controversies involving people or companies from the Ruby community.

Nobody is required to demonstrate political alignment to participate. We care about people’s interest in Ruby and their conduct towards others.

How can I attend?

Our meetups are free and open to anyone interested in Ruby, regardless of experience level.

We use Luma to manage our meetups. Follow our Luma calendar to be notified when a meetup is scheduled.

We aim to choose wheelchair accessible venues for our meetups. If a meetup’s accessibility isn’t mentioned in the description, just reach out beforehand and we’ll do what we can to make sure you’re accommodated.

How can I speak?

We’re always looking for speakers, whether it’s a deep technical talk, a lightning talk about something you built, or a “lessons learned” story. Reach out to hello@berlinrb.org with a short pitch (a sentence or two is enough) and we’ll get back to you.

Can I / my company host or sponsor a meetup?

Yes, and we’d love to hear from you! We’re always looking for companies to:

  • Host: provide a space for an evening meetup (talks + mingling).
  • Sponsor: support food, drinks, swag, or other costs, which helps us keep Berlin.rb free and welcoming for everyone.
